Grand Karavia Hotel in DRC to reopen end-March after refurbishment

The Grand Karavia Hotel refurbished by Lonrho Hotels with funding support from the Development Bank of Southern Africa will open to guests at the end of March 2010.

The hotel is located in Lubumbashi in the copper belt of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). It is owned by the government of the DRC and is operated by Lonrho Hotels as an up-market, business class hotel providing a full service offering in line with international standards.

The hotel's facilities include 197 rooms, split into 156 standard rooms, 28 executive rooms with butler service, 12 luxurious suites and one presidential suite. The La Bonne Table a la carte restaurant serves breakfast and the Caf du Lac and the Terrasse Pool Bar serve light lunches and high teas.

The Karibuni Cocktail Bar and Habana Cigar Bar is expected to become a key meeting point in the town. For guest convenience, the hotel will have extensive secure on-site parking, a boutique and convenience store, bank, secretarial services, WiFi, meeting rooms and conference facilities to accommodate up to 200 people.

A new website has been launched to market the hotel and announce that it will soon be open for business (www.grandkaraviahotel.com).

The opening team includes Lonrho Hotels operations manager John Gray, GM Paul Murry, chef Laurent Mathieu, financial controller Jean Marie Muamba and in HR Yves Tshamala.
