Mantis Group partners with Preferred Hotel Group to grow portfolio

US-based Preferred Hotel Group has formed a strategic partnership with local boutique hotel company Mantis Group. The result is the Preferred Hotel Group is now the largest international hotel brand in South Africa, bringing the total number of its member properties on the continent to 30.

The latest 14 additions to the Preferred family range from luxury properties in Cape Town to game reserves in Port Elizabeth and the Kruger National Park, as well as the Draycott Hotel in London.

Each of the new members reflect the Mantis Group's approach to developing a collection of some of the world's finest resorts, each selected for their unique location, wildlife, culture, beauty and individuality. The group was founded in 2000 and its properties have won many accolades and honours over the years.

Adrian Gardiner, chairman of Mantis Group, explains: "It has always been one of our ambitions to increase Mantis's global presence worldwide. These new additions join three other new members in South Africa including Cape Royale Luxury Hotel and Residences in Cape Town and the Devon Valley Hotel and Erinvale Golf Estate, Hotel & Spa, both in the Stellenbosch Region.

The Preferred Hotel Group has been operational since 1968. It is a global provider of sales, marketing and technology support to individually owned and operated hotels and resorts, with over 750 members in over 65 countries.

The group comprises of five brands: Preferred Hotels & Resorts; Preferred Boutique; Summit Hotels & Resorts; Sterling Hotels; and Historic Hotels of Americas. It also has a guest benefits program called I Prefer and a membership program with access to luxury golf resorts called Preferred Golf Club.

In 2007, the company entered the luxury real estate market with the launch of Preferred Residences, a membership and exchange program for luxury shared ownership resorts that provide a high level of service and amenities.

The Mantis Group comprises of a vast selection of local and international boutique hotels, game reserves, vineyard and luxury yachts. In Africa it has two properties in Rwanda to open later this year: Gorilla's Nest Lodge on the boundary of the Volcanoes National Park and the new Nyungwe Forest Lodge situated on the edge of Nyungwe Equatorial Rain Forest.

The group also has properties in London, French Riviera, Netherlands, Scotland, Northern Ireland and a yacht that tours the Antarctica.
