Harveys Bar at the Winchester Mansions on the Sea Point beachfront has been given a makeover to make it more spacious and cater for a growing market that will include an influx of football fans as the hotel is within walking distance of the Cape Town Stadium. High-tech lighting and stylish furniture complement the rich wooden finishes, bronzed mirrors and ebony-coloured parquet flooring.

The bar has an entertainment system with a Bose sound system and two 102cm Sony Bravia LCD televisions featuring a bouquet of DSTV channels that will make Harveys ideal for soccer fans to enjoy all the 2010 FIFA World Cup action.

The Harveys Passionada, a new signature sundowner cocktail consisting of a passion fruit puree and Malibu rum topped with Pierre Jourdan Brut, has been created to headline a new cocktail menu.

Christophe Borderie, Harveys French executive chef, has designed a bistro menu for all palates and appetites. The menu includes Flammkuchen French pizza, club sandwiches, seafood dishes and savouries such as samoosas and spring rolls.

The bar seats 70 guests and there is ample standing room. The bar's verandah overlooking the seafront and the Atlantic Ocean seats 28 guests.

Harveys Bar operates from 10am till 1am.

Run by Nils Heckscher, the Winchester Mansions is one of Cape Town's longest operating hotels but it has been considerably redeveloped in recent years. It has 51 rooms and 25 suites, all of which have either sea or mountain views.

The hotel also has a Ginkgo Health and Wellness Spa and its open-air Courtyard has been a popular meeting spot for decades.
