Hilton Sandton has revamped two floors of deluxe guest rooms, specifically with the corporate traveller in mind. Leisure travellers will also be delighted with the full range of extra features.

The deluxe suites, king and twin rooms on the hotel's second and third floors have been given a total make-over, wing by wing to prevent disrupting guests, with final completion set for end-May.

The new look rooms are 32m2 and have been designed to offer three dedicated zones for guests - work, relax and sleep. GM Axel Hauser says that once again they have listened to the needs of their guests with the new, contemporary design features. The rooms are spacious, comfortable and most importantly functional.

"The concept of specifically differentiating these three spaces in the new rooms was vital to how the room came together from an installation point of view," explains Hauser. "Every item installed in the room was moulded to reflect the zone theory and how best each space would work for the guest."

"One of the major considerations in the new rooms was the accessibility of a wireless internet connection. Our internet ethos at the hotel will continue with the new rooms, providing guests hour-by-hour packages for accessibility. This structure of hourly access is to ensure guests pay only for what they consume, as opposed to a blanket increase on per night costs to cover possible usage."

The work space includes a spacious desk with lamp and comfortable office chair. The easily accessible plugs cater for local as well as UK, USA and European power points. It also has multimedia connection options which allow guests to project any high definition multimedia interface device or video graphics (such presentations, emails, movies or music on their laptops) and stereo audio devices directly onto the television. A Cat6 cable provides high speed internet access.

There are high definition LG-LCD screen televisions in all rooms, with a range of DSTV channels available.

Other features include an iron and ironing board for quick and easy in room use (no need to phone reception), rest area for reading with a round table that can swivel to serve as a dining table, range of magazines, automatic lights in the wardrobe, individual reading lights above the bed, a large safe, and tea and coffee making facilities.

A full range of luxury amenities are available in the bathroom, which has also been revamped to include extra lighting.

Hilton Sandton has also designed the rooms to factor in its ultimate goal of reducing energy consumption by 20%. The refurbished rooms now consume 50% less energy than previously.

This reduction is achieved through sealing the windows to control temperature, compact florescent lighting and the installation of appliances in the room that draw substantially less power. The mini-bar in the room is remote controlled to run for only a few hours during the day.

"We are following global trends and best practice with the revamp of these rooms, and we are looking forward to hosting our first guests in the new rooms. In addition, guests can enjoy these facilities at any time with no interruptions thanks to our recent generator installation," says Hauser.
