Hostex Cape held at the Cape Town International Convention Centre last week reported higher than expected attendance figures. Some 6083 visitors attended the show, which was held over three days, excluding the many students who were restricted to the final day.

This year's event featured new attractions to draw a broader audience, including wine, environmentally friendly products and niche services. Regular offerings, such as the various chefs competitions, Chefs Experience live demonstration kitchen and Home Grown Village remained as popular as ever.

Exhibition director Lynn Chamier says of the boost in visitor numbers: "We believe this reflects the imminent economic upsurge and last-minute sourcing of goods and services for the World Cup."

Exhibitors reported they were pleased with the calibre of visitors, business conducted during the show, number of leads to follow up and networking opportunities.

The Hotel & Restaurant stand was also declared a huge success, as new and existing readers stopped by to chat to the publisher, editors, sales and support staff in attendance. A flat screen television displayed the brand's website, with daily updates of the latest industry news taking place from the stand during the show.

The team also marketed the newly launched Careers portal, which was a particular point of interest on students day.

Bookings are now open for Hostex Gauteng in March 2011 and Hostex Cape in May 2012. For more information, please contact Lindy Taylor on (011) 835-1565 or lindyt@specialised.com.
